Kondapochamma Sagar is a 15 TMC irrigation reservoir in Markook mandal, Siddipet district, built as part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and opened in May 2020. It lies about 50 km from Hyderabad, roughly 30 km beyond Shamirpet on the Karimnagar highway.
It was built to water farmland, not for visitors. But within a couple of months of opening it had become one of the easiest drives out of Hyderabad: a long embankment, open water to the horizon, and a sunset with nothing in the way.

A visit to the reservoir itself is short: a walk or a slow drive along the embankment, photographs, the sunset. What it does not have is much else — few places to eat, and nowhere to stay if the drive back to the city in the dark does not appeal.

At the water’s edge
Kondapochamma Sagar is a working irrigation reservoir, not a beach. Five young people from Hyderabad drowned there in January 2025. Please:
- Stay out of the water — it is deep, with pits near the edge
- Keep children well back from the waterline
- Take photographs from the bund, not the slope
- Carry drinking water; there is little on the bund
- Swim in the pool at the farmhouse instead
